Agona Nyakrom, Ghana – Traditional leaders in the central regional town of Agona Nyakrom has announced a ban on indecent dress with immediate effect as preparation towards this year’s Akwambo festival begins on Monday, August 5, 2024.
The Tufuhene of Nyakrom, Nana Osei Bonsu III who also doubles as the chairman of the planning committee gave the ban when he addressed the chiefs and people after an ecstatic clean up exercise to sanitize the environment ahead of the scintillating celebration.
“The youth particularly, girls are warned to avoid indecent dressing because the chiefs and elders will not tolerate half-naked dressing that goes against the beautiful culture and traditions that we are about to display during the festival”, he said.
According to Nana Osei Bonsu III, individuals who are seen wearing provocative or revealing dress clothing in public will be summoned and sanctioned.
He asserted that, the festival will be used as a medium to promote tourism and the cultural practices of the people of Agona Nyarkrom.
The Tufuhene of Nyakrom announced that the festival will be climax with a fund raising ceremony on Saturday August 10,2024 towards the construction male and female wards for the Nyakrom Health Centre.
In his remarks, the Omanhene of Nyakrom traditional area urged individuals and organizations to maintain serene environment to make Agona Nyakrom one of Ghana’s cleanest towns.
The clean up exercise brought together queen mothers, religious leaders and members of the two Asafo companies among other government officials and people of Agona Nyakrom.
