Afua Asantewaa O. Aduonum has completed an astonishing 121 hours and 39 minutes of continuous singing in her second attempt to set the Guinness World Record (GWR) for the longest singing marathon by an individual. This incredible achievement took place at the Heroes’ Park at Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, captivating audiences and highlighting the rich tapestry of Ghanaian music.
The marathon singing session commenced in the early hours of December 21, 2024, and concluded triumphantly on December 25, 2024, a day symbolic of celebration and joy. Over the five-day period, the 34-year-old media personality and singer performed over 200 songs, spanning a diverse range of Ghanaian genres, including gospel, highlife, afrobeat, and hiplife.
Reflecting on her accomplishment, Afua Asantewaa expressed deep satisfaction, stating, “I am fulfilled considering the fact that I succeeded in promoting Ghanaian songs.” She also acknowledged the crucial role of her support system in the success of the marathon. “Of course, my team, comprising Gladys Osei Owiredu (manager), Kofi Owusu Aduonum (husband and Head of PR), Fredrick Fosu, Kelvin Abban (Creatives), and Isaac Amponsah (Operations), were instrumental in this journey,” she said.
This marks Afua Asantewaa’s second attempt to break the record. In 2023, she sang for an impressive 126 hours, surpassing the existing record of 105 hours set by India’s Sunil Waghmare. However, her effort did not qualify due to technicalities. Undeterred, Afua returned stronger and more prepared for this year’s attempt, clocking in 121 hours and 39 minutes. Following the completion of her marathon, Afua Asantewaa and her team are now focused on the next critical phase: submitting evidence to Guinness World Records for review.
