Former Council of State Member,Dr. Edward Gyader Dies

Wa, Ghana – Scores of people are mourning the loss of the Former Council of State Member from the Upper West Region and seasoned medical practitioner, Dr. Edward Nminnyuor Gyader who passed away on Wednesday.

The former Dean of the University for Development Studies was a respected figure in the medical field where he rose to become a specialist surgeon.

Family of the late statesman are yet to announce details of his final funeral rites.

Profile of Dr. Edward Nminnyuor Gyader

Born at Nandom Piiri in the Nandom municipality of the Upper West Region, Dr. Edward Nminnyuor Gyader attended Tamale Secondary School and qualified as a medical doctor at the University of Bologna. He later specialized as a surgeon at the University of Padova between 1966-1967.

He arrived in Ghana in 1968 and was posted by the Ghana Health Service to the Jirapa Hospital as a Medical Superintendent and Surgeon-in-Charge. He later worked at Wa and Jirapa hospitals and occasionally worked as a doctor in Burkina Faso.
Dr. Edward Nminnyuor Gyader was an avid sportsman, excelling in hockey, lawn tennis, athletics, and hunting. He also had a stint in politics, serving as a member of the People’s National Convention (PNC) and ran unsuccessfully as a parliamentary candidate before being appointed as a Council of State member by then President John Dramani Mahama. He was also a member of the 1991-1992 Consultative Assembly that drafted Ghana’s 1992 Constitution.
