NPP Demands Apology From Mahama for Assault on Members

Date: 21 Jun 2024

A tense standoff between rival political parties escalated yesterday when the New Patriotic Party (NPP) demanded a formal apology from the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama for an alleged assault on some of their members by thugs believed to be the bodyguards of the former president when he appeared as guest of honor during the 50th anniversary of the Christian Service University on Wednesday.

According to eyewitnesses, a scuffle broke out between supporters of both parties during the ceremony in the Ashanti Regional capital of Kumasi, resulting in injuries to several students.

The New Patriotic Party has accused the National Democratic Congress of instigating the violence and is now demanding a public apology and disciplinary action against those responsible.

Part of a released by the National Youth Organizer, Salam Mustapha on Thursday read, “The NPP Youth Wing is absolutely disgusted by this recklessly irresponsible act of thuggery┬á and hooliganism by John Mahama’s security team. We also demand John Mahama gives out these thugs for the law to deal with them”.

The NDC has denied any wrongdoing and claims that their supporters were acting in self-defense.

The incident has sparked widespread condemnation from across the political spectrum, with many calling for calm and restraint.

The fate of the apology demand remains uncertain, as both parties remain entrenched in their positions. The situation continues to be closely monitored by the public and political analysts alike.
